“Just call me a BigBrother ambassador.”Danny Küppers I Head of Security at Metro/Makro Belgium & Netherlands
Danny Küppers works for the wholesale chain Makro Cash & Carry, part of the German retail group Metro AG, where he has held several positions with security roles since 2003. He is presently responsible for security, safety and loss prevention as Head of Security Management Makro Cash & Carry Netherlands. A few years ago they were looking for a new security partner with a strong track record in service and support. Of course, value for money was also a significant consideration. They chose BigBrother. That marked the start of a strong and fruitful relationship.
There were a number of changes right after we started working together. To start with, we were one of the first retail organisations in the Netherlands to change to IP cameras. More importantly, the breadth of BigBrother's solutions enabled us to put all our systems under the same roof. Previously access control was separate from the security, alarm and camera system, but now everything is linked together. That saves a lot of time. In addition, I now have a single contact for all of these areas, who is fully dedicated to Makro. That works faster and is more pleasant.
BigBrother gets to know the customer in detail and is not a passive partner. That makes my work easier. I'm a generalist, while they have all the specialities in house. That way we reinforce each other. They think proactively and honestly. If we want something and they think that there is a better or cheaper option for us, they say so. Thanks to that trust, we have been able to establish a good long-term cooperative relationship.
One of the innovations that has come out of this relationship is virtual close protection. In late 2011 I came up with an idea for increasing security during branch opening and closing while reducing costs. I took this idea to BigBrother to let them iron out the wrinkles in the technological implementation. In collaboration with Trigion, we elaborated this concept and tested it thoroughly, and now we have successfully rolled it out.
The insight we have obtained from working with BigBrother is that with innovative thinking you can implement security better and more cost-effectively by doing things differently. We also get BigBrother involved on a regular basis in the high-level design phase of our new-build plans or branch remodelling projects. In big projects, that is an important factor in the decision process regarding tenders submitted in response to the ITT. BigBrother has a lot of expertise, so they can refine many details of the specification drawings in advance to obtain a perfect situation. Time management and working efficiently also make a large positive contribution to this strong relationship.
I am consciously an ambassador for partnership with BigBrother. They are there for us day and night, and I find doing business with them pleasant, reliable, and above all effective.
All of the solutions together have a positive impact on our organisation. Pataco merchandise security, for which BigBrother is the agent in the Benelux, should also be mentioned. It also makes for flexible and effective solutions.
